Full rollbeskrivning

Boliden is a high-tech metals company with its own mines and smelters that works long-term to guarantee society's access to base and precious metals. For a century, our work has been part of the value chains that have shaped modern society. At Boliden, we know that the metals we mine and make available will continue to play a crucial role in the future – what matters is how we produce them. Become a part of us and drive change for generations to come.

Are you an experienced Geotechnical Engineer looking to influence the future of sustainable underground mining? In this role you will provide expert support across our operations and projects, helping ensure safe, efficient, and future-ready mining through advanced expertise.

Your opportunity

As a Senior Geotechnical Engineer you will support both operating mines and development projects by providing specialist expertise in geotechnical engineering and rock mechanics. You will contribute to mine design, mining methods, extraction sequencing, and ground support strategies, ensuring geotechnical considerations are integrated into planning and operational decision-making.

The position is based at the Boliden office, with a primary focus on supporting underground mining operations. Other locations within Boliden Mines may also be considered.

Who you will work with

You will join the Rock Mechanics team within Mine Staff, a collaborative group of geotechnical specialists supporting Boliden's mining operations. The role involves close cooperation with mine planning engineers, geologists, production technology specialists, project teams, and external consultants across multiple sites.

What you will do

  • Provide geotechnical and rock mechanics support to underground mining operations
  • Contribute to mine design, mining methods, stope design, and extraction sequencing
  • Perform and evaluate numerical modelling for mining applications
  • Support feasibility studies, projects, and technical investigations
  • Conduct geotechnical risk assessments and contribute to Ground Control Management Plans
  • Evaluate ground behaviour, seismicity, and ground support requirements
  • Develop and improve technical standards, tools, and work processes
  • Collaborate with multidisciplinary teams to deliver practical geotechnical solutions
  • Mentor and support less experienced colleagues when needed

What you bring

You are an analytical and solution-oriented professional who enjoys tackling complex technical challenges. With strong communication skills, you can translate technical information into clear recommendations and build productive relationships across teams and disciplines. You thrive in collaborative environments and take a proactive approach to continuous improvement.

We are looking for someone who has

  • BSc or MSc in Mining Engineering, Rock Mechanics, Geotechnical Engineering, Civil Engineering, or equivalent
  • Minimum five years of experience in geotechnical engineering within underground mining
  • Strong knowledge of mine design, mining methods, stope design, sequencing, and ground support
  • Experience with geotechnical risk assessment and integration of geotechnical input into mine planning
  • Practical experience with numerical modelling
  • Knowledge of seismicity, ground control practices, and Ground Control Management Plans
  • Proficiency in English
  • Valid B-class driving licence

It is meritorious if you also have:

  • Experience from mining projects or technical development initiatives
  • Experience mentoring junior engineers
  • Proficiency in Swedish, or willingness to learn
  • Experience working across multiple sites or within an international organization

We offer a workplace where we believe in collaboration and where what you contribute will have a direct impact on future generations. We are a company made up of responsible and creative people all working towards the same vision; to become the most sustainable and respected metal supplier in the world.
