Full rollbeskrivning

Do you want to develop your research and teaching in an environment where collaboration with industry and society is a natural part of the work? With us, you will collaborate with dedicated colleagues, have access to modern research infrastructure, and enjoy strong opportunities to attract external funding. You will have the space to make a real difference for your students, your research, and society at large.

The Cyber-Physical Systems (CPS) subject at Luleå University of Technology is expanding its activities within distributed and decentralized architectures, industrial digitalization, decision support systems, and adaptive cyber-physical infrastructures in close collaboration with Swedish and European industry.

This recruitment is strategically important to strengthen research and teaching within areas related to distributed systems, scalable ledger technologies, industrial planning automation, and formal methods. In addition, several senior researchers are expected to retire within the coming five years, creating a need to ensure long-term capacity in research, supervision, external funding activities, and teaching at first-, second-, and third-cycle levels.

Duties

The position involves research, teaching, and educational development within the subject area. The target distribution of duties is approximately 65% research and graduate co-supervision and 35% teaching and undergrad supervision. The research component will mainly involve collaborative projects with Swedish and European industry, where applied research is combined with scientific methods and experimental research in computer science, particularly within distributed systems, scalable ledger technologies, industrial digitalization, decision support systems, and automation of manufacturing planning processes. The research is expected to include both theoretical and practical aspects, including the use of formal methods. The teaching component will primarily concern areas related to the assessment criteria, including formal methods, distributed computing, software engineering, and industrial digitalization. Teaching may take place at first-, second- and third-cycle levels. The position also involves contributing to the development of research proposals and applications for external research funding at both national and European levels.

Qualifications

To meet the requirements for the appointment as associate senior lecturer, the applicant:

  • must have been awarded a doctoral degree or must have a foreign degree considered equivalent to a doctoral degree.

Primary consideration should be given to someone who has been awarded a doctoral degree within five years of the application deadline for employment as an associate senior lecturer. However, someone who has been awarded a doctoral degree or achieved corresponding competence at an earlier date may also be considered if there are special grounds. Special grounds are sick leave, parental leave or other similar circumstances.

Assessment criteria

The following assessment criteria apply to this position:

  • scientific expertise
  • other assessment criteria.

Other assessment criteria:

The following other assessment criteria apply to this position: weighted equally

  • the degree of expertise required for qualification
  • teaching experience in higher education
  • the ability to collaborate with Swedish and European industry
  • the ability to communicate research and software development work
  • the ability to teach in Swedish and in English

Emphasis will be placed on scientific and pedagogical potential within distributed computing, scalable ledger technologies, and industrial planning automation. Experience of industrial collaboration, interdisciplinary research environments, and the ability to communicate research results and software-related development work to both academic and industrial audiences will be considered important merits.

Meritorious qualifications include documented expertise in distributed systems, blockchain technologies, scalable transaction processing, industrial automation, assembly line planning, and decision support systems. Experience of interdisciplinary research combining computer science and industrial engineering is considered particularly valuable. Experience from collaboration with industry, especially within manufacturing, digitalization, or automation initiatives, as well as international research experience, is also regarded as an asset.

Period of employment

For this employment, an employment period of four years applies.
